Billions donated worldwide Not so long ago I came across a report from Gallup, an American research organization, entitled 'The World's Most Generous Countries'. Gallup examined the generosity of the residents in 146 countries. The report is based on more than 153,000 interviews with an average of around 1,000 adults per country. At the end of the report I found the long list in which the most generous people in the world were noted. I was most pleased when I read the main conclusion of this report: "You do not have to be rich to give". Some countries, where people have much less than in other countries, rank very high in the list of the most generous countries. Indonesia is in place 1, Kenya in 5 and Myanmar in place 9! This research shows how generous our world is. Every day we get reports with figures about crime; war and terrorism and it is good to read that at the same time so many people are active to make the world a better place. Nearly 1 billion people have volunteered a month prior to the survey; 1.4 billion people have donated money and more than 2 billion people have helped a stranger in need. These 2 billion people not only improve the world but through these positive activities they also help themselves: research shows that generosity and volunteer work is a huge stimulus for your own health and well-being. I was so happy while reading the report because I realized how rich we are in this world. There is a lot of money donated but the wealth that made me happy is the willingness to help each other; to be ready for each other when necessary and to care for fellow human beings. And this is done by about 2 billion world citizens! Every day we experience the help of our donors and partners in our BGW projects in Ethiopia. We have many loyal donors and organizations that support our work financially and feel really involved in the work we do. For our clients it is good to experience that they are supported by people on the other side of the world. What we can give back to you is the certainty that with your contribution many people can lead a dignified life. Thanks for this worldly togetherness!
